THE LATEST FROM JOOLZ...
June 2008
Summertime arrived a little ahead of the calendar and we’ve already had several days of mid-August heat and sunshine. Along with summertime comes lots of activity in the Canandaigua area…
SUMMER ART WALK – FRIDAY, JUNE 27
Canandaigua’s galleries and boutiques join together to host Art Walk twice a year. Scheduled from 2pm -9pm on Friday, June 27, you can visit interesting and unusual shops, see artists at work and have some refreshments. Lampwork glass bead artist Kerry Bogert will return to JOOLZ to demonstrate her craft from 4pm – 7pm. She’ll also bring along some new pieces of work. Kerry has fans across the country and her last visit was a big hit. Watching her create her beautiful glass beads is just fascinating…hope we’ll see you on Friday.
VISIT WITH TORONTO ARTIST LISA RIDOUT
My very first wholesale order was with Toronto artist Lisa Ridout at the November 2006 One of a Kind show. I just knew her work would be a hit with my customers. Creating jewelry for over 15 years, Lisa makes intricate sterling silver chain and embellishes the pieces with sparkling Swarovski crystals. Using traditional chain patterns as a template, she comes up with new and unusual twists (pun intended!) that make them her own.
A few weeks ago we met for lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake at the Old Winery Restaurant. A new venture of renowned chef Tony DeLuca, the restaurant is – in a word – fabulous! Smashing décor, attentive, friendly service and absolutely delicious food. Don’t miss it the next time you’re in the area.
After devouring a delightful meal, Lisa and I looked at many of the new and familiar pieces she had brought to show me. I couldn’t stop saying yes! JOOLZ now has an expanded collection of Lisa Ridout pieces, including her Cascade necklace, bracelet and earrings, which incorporate copper, grey and champagne crystals. Designed with a sterling C clasp, the necklace and bracelet can be worn separately or hooked together, making one long necklace. The neutral palette makes the pieces winners in any season.
Lisa’s newest work is a little outside her usual look, but it’s still all Lisa. She uses colorful, elastic mesh tubing to create lightweight necklaces and then embellishes them with sterling and glass bead rings. We have the necklaces in many colors – black, of course, but also summery aquas, clears, blues and lavenders.
While Lisa’s jewelry is in Canadian stores coast to coast, we are the only US store carrying her work; you definitely won’t see these pieces on too many other well-dressed ladies. Come in and take a look for yourself!
